De-stress by Walking: 5 Walks to Switch Off and Soothe the Mind | Star Air Conditioning | Brisbane

Walking is a great form of exercise, it’s not only great for our bodies it’s also considered an excellent way to de-stress the mind.

The best thing about walking is it’s free and you don’t need any special equipment to do it, except a good pair of walking shoes.

As business owners (installing air conditioning), we work very closely with builders who are always busy, so walking could be just what we all need to relax and clear the mind. Keep reading for more benefits of walking and some awesome walks you can do around Brisbane!

Walking is an exercise that is suitable for all age groups, and it’s considered low impact on your joints. Studies have shown that even just a short walk of 10 minutes once a day can improve your health and significantly reduce stress levels.

One of the reasons for this is because walking gets us outside and changes our perspective, which is important for the mental aspect of stress. Stress can build when we’re faced with a problem we can’t find an answer to, and walking lets us take a step back and see the problem from a new angle, and to put it into perspective.

5 Nature and City Walks Around Brisbane

Going for a walk around the block is advantageous but Brisbane has many city and nature walks that can really help to de-stress the mind. From riverside and seafront, to urban and wetlands, we’re truly blessed for beautiful walks.

1. Kangaroo Point

A highly varied 5 km inner city walking circuit that runs along the base of the Kangaroo Point cliffs. It takes in old quarries, traverses over mangrove boardwalks, alongside river parks, through botanic gardens and a Riverside strip of bars and eateries. It is largely flat and easy walking.

2. Brisbane Riverwalk

Built to replace the first floating riverwalk that was washed away in the 2011 floods. This new 1 km water highway is shared use for pedestrians and cyclists and juts out along the most scenic tract of Brisbane River between New Farm to the Howard St Wharves.

3. Paddington

A picturesque urban walk that weaves along the winding ridgetops of hilly and historic Paddington. It takes in lovely old Queenslanders, antique shops, a cemetery, churches and old picture theatres. A walk down memory lane indeed with plenty to stop and look at.

4. Wynnum – Manly

This scenic walk starts at the Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk and follows the seafront for 10 km to Manly. It features Pandanus Beach, a heritage wading pool, lush parks and Manly Harbour with its yacht marina. You can also do the Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk at Oyster Point from this path.

5. Shorncliffe

A peaceful seafront path that meanders for 2 – 2.5 km taking in Victorian villas in Sandgate, a landmark historic church and the Shorncliffe pier to Cabbage Tree Creek. City dwellers can leave the car at home and access the walk by catching the train to Shorncliffe Station. There’s also a picnic and barbecue area and a playground on the shore, if you want to make a day of it with the kids.
