How to become an advanced level air con user

How to become an advanced level air con user
February 21, 2017 Star Air Conditioning

You don’t need to be an expert to master using all the features on your air con, you just need to do a little reading, and a bit of experimenting.

Whether you’re a homeowner or a renter, we’ll have you reaching the exuberant heights of advanced level air con user in no time with these handy tips!

1. Read your user manual

It might sound like an obvious one, but it’s surprising how many people just throw them away after purchase. Can’t find your air conditioner’s manual? No worries! Most brands will provide manuals for each model on their website. Simply scan your split system or outdoor unit for the brand name and model name and number, and go forth and Google! If you can’t figure out which one is yours, email or call customer services and most will be more than happy to help you out.

Manuals these days are pretty user-friendly. If you can’t be bothered scanning all the small text, at least check out the diagram for your remote or touchpad to figure out the general cons.

2. Do a trial run for setting your timer during the day, while you’re at home

Don’t try to set a timer for the first time overnight or while you’re out. If you’ve punched in something incorrectly and it turns on at the wrong time, you could end up paying for a whole day or night’s worth of air con when you aren’t even home to enjoy it! Also, watch out for 24 hour time – many air cons are programmed under this format.

3.Become an expert at utilising the timer rather than the ‘powerful’ setting

Many air cons have a ‘powerful’ setting that will use a large burst of power to immediately cool down or heat up a room so that you don’t have to wait long periods for it to reach the optimum temperature. These settings, however, chew up a lot of energy in a short spurt, so you’re better off programming your air con to turn on half an hour before you’re due to arrive home so that it can steadily reach your desired temperature rather than working on overtime.

4. Become best mates with the eco setting from the get-go

Always look for an eco setting on your air con. It will save you energy, and big bucks in the long run. If you set a standard for using it from the very beginning, then it will just feel like normal. 24-25 degrees Celsius is the optimum temperature for energy efficiency and really is comfortable to live in! Don’t put the air con down just so you can cosy up under your doona – we promise that Winter is just around the corner for that!

5. Make the most of sensor technology

Don’t be afraid to use the sensor technology available with your ducted or split system! Despite your nightmarish presumptions, the air con isn’t recording your every move, it is simply sensing where the body heat and movement is happening in your room. Much sensor technology these days can detect if a room is in use, and drop the temperature by increments if no one is occupying it, to save you money. The sensor isn’t a spy, it’s more like your wallet’s best friend.

If you want to upgrade to an expert level air conditioning user, have a look at Advanced Air’s ducted air conditioning management system, MyAir.
